In my early 30s, I want to experience the NYC life and also have a nice quality apartment. But I am also willing to have the tradeoff to live in Manhattan. My rent budget is $2500-2800/month.Don't get scammed into buying the Explorer Pass, New York Pass, the CityPass or others. They are seldom worth it unless you are visiting several tourist sites in a day (which isn't really the best way to see New York)! If you are really going to do the city pass stuff, then it is fine.
